NEWS

  • Newest release is 0.9.79.

  • The GTK+ vs Tk vote has finished with 283 votes total. 235 (83%) were for GTK+ support, 48 (17%) were for leaving it as is with Tk. Seeing what graphics toolkit people are in support of, I wanted to see which language people liked more. So here is a list of possible languages and some benefits. Please let me know what you think :) If you have another language you really like, feel free to mail me and let me know why.
Guile (Good existing GTK+ support. Powerful, versatile language [TCL-theme that allows scripting in TCL without changes to the core of the client]. GNU-sanctioned scripting language. Still reasonably simple.)
TCL (It's already built, but would need to build GTK+ support for TCL. [Note that if the language changes in QuIRC, there core of the client will be rewritten and the problem with memory leaks that exists now will be eliminated!].)
Perl (Excellent text processing, incredibly powerful, yet complex. GTK+ bindings exist [May not be as good as Guile bindings].)

  • I hardly get any mail related to QuIRC anymore... if there's problems, I need to hear about them... if there are things that you want added, feel free to bug me about them.

  • If you've got a script or a theme that you'd like put on the QuIRC page, please send it to me with either an accompanying text file description if it's a script tarball or tcl, or a screenshot if it's a theme.

  • Some people have been having problems with features being missing after upgrading QuIRC. If you have run quirc.inst and are still suffering, there are a couple of possible options. The most extreme solution being to delete dynamic.tcl, which would start you over with fresh settings. Most often though, the problem is just a script file being missing from either the default_globalscripts or default_scripts variables. Compare the values in your client with those in variables.tcl and add any necessary scripts. As for recent changes of that nature, popups.tcl was added to default_globalscripts.

  • There's a slight problem with 0.9.79. After you've run quirc.inst, you need to run:
    chmod -f u+x $HOME/.quirc/quedit
  • Please *vote* for your favorite bug or feature. (NOTE: This is a DIFFERENT vote than the GTK+ vs Tk vote.)

  • For other news, see the NEWS file.
QuIRC is a theoretically cool X based IRC client. Core dumps are unacceptable. It contains state of the art scripting facilities powered by Tcl accompanied by Tk. If you like it, that's great. If you don't like it, that's great... go ahead and change it. :)

NOTE: Please read the NEWS file for the version you download. It is usually not very long, and if there are important issues that need addressed, they will be written there.

    Get Source.
NOTE: If you get the source you will need to have Tcl / Tk 8.x installed.

    Get Binary RPM "RH6.0" (Compiled with: Tcl/Tk 8.0.4, glibc 2.1.1, XFree86 3.3.3.1).
Here are links to the Tcl / Tk RPMS.

Once you install the RPM, run quirc.inst to complete the installation.

    Get Source RPM.

Jonathan Singer has graciously created a package for LinuxPPC and MkLinux. It is available at his site.

If you don't use an RPM capable system, but you still want to use binary or packaged forms native to your system, I recommend using Alien. It has worked well for me.

    Screenshots!

Here is the README for more information about the client.

    Here is the ChangeLog.

    Here is the FAQ.

QuIRC is under the GPL license. See COPYING for details.

Here is a WindowMaker Theme and a 32x32 icon for QuIRC made by Dinkmeister. Direct any responses you may have in his general direction :)
